This is the "Killer" WannaCry Virus that Donates All His Gifts

This is the "Killer" WannaCry Virus that Donates All His Gifts

In the past 1 week, one of the topics that is being discussed is the spread of the WannaCry ransomware virus that attacks hundreds of parties in various countries. WannaCry is indeed a sensation because of its massive distribution and the possibility of harming victims through loss of personal data.

But when dealing with the world of technology, when there is a problem there is certainly a solution that can be done. Likewise for the WannaCry case, not a few of the technology experts are trying to find solutions. And one of them who succeeded in stopping the spread of the ransomware was an IT expert with a pseudonym MalwareTech.

About the Spread of WannaCry Ransomware

For information, over the past few days the world has been described by the spread of a virus called WannaCry. In general, the ransomware virus will infect the main computer that uses the Windows operating system. If a computer has been hit by a WannaCry attack, then the data contained in the computer eats encrypted so that it cannot be opened by the user.

If so, the hacker will ask for a sum of money as a ransom for encrypted data. If, the user wants the data back then they have to pay some of the funds.

Looking at the victims, it is rumored that this ransomware has attacked in more than 150 countries. Several large companies and agencies such as the UK National Health Agency, Fedex, Nissan, Telefonica and many other companies have been included in the list of victims of WannaCry.

Solution of accident

That's where enough observers or experts in the field of technology, who try to find a solution to the problem of WannaCry. One of them is a user with the alias MalwareTech. The user who was later known to be a 22-year-old man, managed to find a solution to stop the spread of WannaCry.

Interestingly, MalwareTech acknowledges that this method happened accidentally. At first, he registered a domain that was used for the distribution of WannaCry. When the domain is registered, a mechanism automatically stops the spread of the ransomware, or what is commonly referred to as "Kill Switch".

Does not like publication

From there, the name MalwareTech began to spread in cyberspace and even covered by many large foreign media. Some media try to reveal what personal data is like from the MalwareTech account users.

But this is precisely what MalwareTech feels is very disturbing. He said that, in fact, he did not like publication or excessive reporting. Even when, there are media that have violated privacy by visiting personally to their homes, he is not reluctant to label the media as an irresponsible media.

However, what is done by MalwareTech is certainly not an ordinary thing. Because thanks to these findings, quite a lot of people or parties are helped and there are still millions of people who might be saved from the risk of spreading the WannaCry ransomware.

From there, appreciation is also done in other ways, namely by giving gifts. This is done by one of the online platforms called HackerOne. HackerOne itself is a place where we can report if we know of a system or software security problem. From there, security experts who find loopholes will be rewarded in the form of a sum of money.

And specifically for the WannaCry case, HackerOne gave a gift to MalwareTech for 10,000 USD or the equivalent of Rp 133 million.

An inspiring and exemplary example is that the gifts given to MalwareTech are not necessarily used for personal gain. Because when trying to break the chain of ransomware, what he thinks is how can it benefit others.

Therefore, he plans to give the gift to certain organizations or charities. The rest, the money will also be used to buy books which are then donated to underprivileged children.

Smart, solution and humanist!
